Our “Votes For Women Badge” was taken from one of the famous slogans used by the suffrage movement.
Suffrage Movement:
The suffrage movement all wanted votes for women. Millicent Fawcett who led the suffragists and used methods such as traditional lobbying and petitioning, parades and public speaking. The suffragettes however used more direct action “Deeds Not Words”.
Emmeline Pankhurst was brought up in a politically active family. She became involved in women’s suffrage in 1880. Emmeline formed the Women’s Social & Political Union (WSPU), because her local branch of the Independent Labour Party refused to admit women members. Emmeline Pankhurst. was one of the women’s suffrage campaigners, and possibly the most famous suffragette.
